2022: Marking a Decade in Business

It seems like only yesterday that we launched our Twitter Account Management service for a handful of local businesses. Fast-forward ten years to today and we’re proud to provide a flexible range of social media management and marketing services to a whole host of UK organisations.

Although much has changed over the past decade, online marketing has really come into its own. Not to mention the shock arrival of a global pandemic, which has certainly seen a shift in business approaches and workplaces over the past two years alone.

In 2022, there are many more social media platforms to choose from and with plenty of people now opting to work or socialise at home, they are spending more time scrolling social media feeds for business, employment or lifestyle reasons. According to a recent study, 90% of people buy from brands they follow on social media so it’s easy to see why more businesses are now regularly posting – especially on fast-growing platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.

We love to be able to support local and UK businesses; with sectors including property, health and fitness, engineering and wildlife management in our portfolio. When the Covid-19 pandemic and national lock-down started in March 2020, we noticed that most of our clients continued to be able to run their businesses remotely, which was positive news. If anything, social media became even more important because so many potential customers were now at home and more likely to be browsing the internet. In our experience, there was an up-tick in users looking for brands who they could research and engage with online. This meant that we needed to be on hand more than ever, to respond to enquiries and enable our clients to leverage their social media as a successful customer service point.

Many of our clients also took the opportunity to update their websites during lock-down – this included new text and blogs to keep their content fresh. We were able to write copy for web pages and blogs, to give our clients’ online presence a welcome boost.

Now that we’ve come through the first quarter of 2022, our clients have survived the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic and are settling into a slightly new way of working – either by moving more of their business online or allowing their teams to work more remotely.

Although much has changed in the business world, for us, some things remain constant. Our very first client in 2012 was Barenaked Foods, whose founder Ross Mendham went on to appear on BBC Dragons’ Den and secure investment from the one and only Peter Jones. Today, Barenaked Noodles & Rice are a well-established brand on the UK’s supermarket shelves and with a range of online specialist retailers. We’re looking forward to developing our continued relationship with Ross and the team, alongside our other highly-valued and long-standing clients. We may even have the chance to represent a Dragons’ Den winner again in the future…!

Business Update March 2020 (Coronavirus)

I do hope that you’re all keeping well, especially in these testing times. I’m working as usual to keep all my clients’ social media channels up to date and offering as much support as I can!

Now may be a good time to have a think about updating your website, writing some helpful articles/blogs and reaffirming positive messages so that your clients (and potential clients) are reminded of your professional expertise. This will help to maintain your brand identity, your business reputation and your online presence once the current situation has come to an end.

If you need any further advice, please feel free to drop me a line.

Stay well!

Happy Birthday to Us! (Has it really been 2 years…..?)

119498631918056439birthday_cake.svg.medIt was on this day, two years ago that we officially launched our social media support and copywriting service, EnigMedia Marketing. It seems incredible when we think about all that has happened over the past 24 months and although not all of it positive, it’s certainly been a fantastic business experience so far!

The most rewarding part of all is being able to provide support to people who just don’t have the budget or resources to keep up with all the latest online marketing techniques for their business. While some marketing options are more beneficial (and cost-effective) than others, we strive to remind people that social media is a key tool for promoting their products and services (not to mention the SEO benefits to their website, but that’s for another blog post!) Many of our clients approach us for help because they don’t have any spare time to manage their company social media accounts – or simply don’t know where to begin!

Although we’ve suffered common business startup issues such as unpaid invoices, bad debt and poor supplier service, we’ve taken on board all that we’ve learned and will continue to offer as much business support as we can during this period of economic recession and recovery. We pride ourselves on our flexible, friendly, affordable support services and hope to develop further as our business expertise grows with our clients.

We’re delighted to be working with companies such as Barenakedfoods, Emerald Frog Marketing, Perfect Pamper, Tax Assist (Attleborough), FDA Packaging and Anxiety UK and would like to thank them all for their hard work and continued support.

How to keep your CV safe online!

According to the Metropolitan Police, 93% of CVs posted online contain enough information for criminals to steal your identity. This information could then be used to take out credit cards and loans in your name, access your accounts, seriously affect your credit rating and even gain a passport in your name!

Local web-based jobs noticeboard, JustJobsPeterborough, is offering some handy advice for people uploading their CVs to online recruitment websites.

Managing Director, Steve Copeland says, “Jobseeker websites are becoming more popular with employers to quickly find the right person with the right skills for their roles. But, with identity fraud on the increase, what can you do to safeguard your online CV whilst still maximising you chances of landing that dream role? We’ve compiled some advice to job-hunters to stay safe. ”

  • Make sure the site you are posting to is genuine, as some bogus ones have been set up purely to collect CV data.  Research online the site’s reputation.
  • Be wary of those emails you get out of the blue suggesting you for an interview (particularly in a field that is not your area of expertise), and that request further personal details.
  • Check that anyone you respond to with further information has a company domain name in their email address and not a host server address.

On your CV:

DO NOT put the following information online. A prospective employer will be able to assess if you have the correct experience for the job without it.

  • Full address. Leave off your house number and road
  • Your middle name
  • Your marital status
  • Your National Insurance number
  • Your date of birth/ place of birth (the Age Discrimination Act means that you don’t have to include this information)
  • Driving licence number
  • Bank details (obviously!)
  • Make sure you have a separate email address for job hunting. Get one free from sites such as Yahoo or Hotmail
  • Do not put names and addresses of any references. They will not thank you if their ID gets stolen! Simply write “References available on request”

In addition:

  • Do not put similiarly sensitive info on Facebook or other networking sites.
  • Deactivate any online CVs when you are not job hunting or if you do not use that job site any more.
  • Make a note of all those places that you have applied to with your personal information online, just in case.
  • If you are applying directly to a company or via an email received, then have a look on the Companies House website (www.companieshouse.gov.uk) to check they are legitimate.
  • Ensure that you regularly change your jobs’ website passwords and have up to date anti-virus/security software on your laptop or PC.
